The whole song is about Dr. Martin Luther King, though your references to Judas are correct.

There is one issue I disdain about the song - the lyrics refer to "early morning, April 4" when Dr. King was shot in the afternoon. "Early evening" would be more accurate, but Mr. Hewson refused to change the lyric even after the glitch was noted.

That is an excellent question, and something that I have often wondered about myself. Although I don't think there is any way to know for sure, I have thought that the "barbed wire fence" part might refer to prisoners at a concentration camp.

The song in its entirety has always been presented as being about/for MLK Jr., although the reference to Jesus being betrayed by Judas is unmistakeable.

Pride (In The Name Of Love)

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go.
One man come he to justify
One man to overthrow.

In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed up on an empty beach
One man betrayed with a kiss.

In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.

Early morning, April four
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky.
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride.

In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.

In the name of love
What more in the name of love.
In the name of love
What more in the name of love.

Biko and Mandela are whom I envision when I hear that along with MLK, Judas, and, by the way, that's Crissie Hynde of the Pretenders on backing vocals!
