I would say coin collecting has stood the test of time. It goes back to the BC era. Coin collecting is the hobby of Kings. I think they say that for only emperors or kings could afford it in the days gone by. It caught on in the U.S. in the 1800's especially after they stopped minting the large cents and came out with the small ones. In England and Russia it goes way back to the days of hammered coins.

New Hobby....Web surfing
Old that has stood the test of time...Knitting which is kind of becoming the New Hobby as well...

well the history of crochet ( my favorite pasttime and hobby!!) has been around since Queen Victoria was seen " hooking" in her private chambers, and I think since before then. Knitting has been around since loooong before then, when, I don't exactly know. those are my hobbies, and scrapbooking will not be around in a few thousand years, since all that paper is depleting our resources, and most yarns are man-made. But scrapbooking is a new hobby, just not for me. i think photography will stand the test of time and be a testament to our past, present and future.

old one:needlepoint and embroidery, al though will fall apart in a couple hundered years. it has been around for a long time.
new: i don't know of much that is new, most hobbies have been around for ages in some form or another, just modified to keep up with the times and demands.
