The Yankees did not give A Rod the contract he just opted out of. The contract was originally given by the Texas Rangers. The Rangers were unable to afford him, so they had to trade him. The Boston Red Sox wanted him, but at a reduced rate, A Rod agreed, but the player's union wouldn't let him take less money. Therefore the Yankees agreed to taking A Rod, the Rangers had to continue paying about 35% of the contract until it was finished. In the contract, there was a clause stating A Rod was able to opt out of the contract after 7 years. The 7 years has finished, and A Rod decided to opt out of his contact. By A Rod opting out, both the Rangers & the Yankees are no longer obligated to pay his salary.
The Yankees will now offer A Rod arbitration, knowing A Rod will refuse, in order to pick up 2 draft picks from whichever team signs A Rod to a new deal. A Rod initially wanted $350 million, for 10 years, as the starting point for negotiating with him, I doubt he will get anywhere near that. The reason being the Yankees will not give him a contract, and once they are out the other teams don't need to bid so high, plus he is limited to only 2 other teams that can actually afford that, the Red Sox, which makes no sencse for them to pay that much, and the Angels. If the Angels are smart they should offer him even less than he is making now because they will be the only team left that has the money to sign him.

So you are saying that if you had the chance to make 15-20 percent more by moving to a different Company even though you were the highest paid person at your postion in the COmpany you would turn it down? I would not, that is what he is doing, he is making a business decision to make the most money he can, like EVERY other MLB player out there, no one is turning down huge money to get less from other people, there are a few guys that give "home town discounts" but they only do that for so long. Andruw Jones is not greedy for wanting more than the Braves offered? Torii Hunter is not greedy for wanting more than the Twins offered?
If one is than they all are but I say none of them are greedy they are shrewd businessmen that are running their business exactly like you would if you were in their shoes.

arod ,,knew he would opt out and ask for 350 from the time he signed with the yankees.. he tried to go to boston or the yankees cause he knew he'd have the biggest stages to perform on.. and if he did well he can ask for it all.. 350 is more than half the teams are worth so his choices are limited.. i do agree that now that boston and the yankees (who Borass was hoping to have a bidding war) are out of it teams are low balling to see how low they will go.. (he could have recieved 30 a year for 5 with the texas money added in for the extention the yankee were offerring) so thats where the starting bid is .. he'll sign for 315 for ten years with incentive that could make him 355 ..with the dodgers as they they try to rebuilt in americas 2 largest market.. the angels in LA are still looked at like the Mets are in NY .. the other team..although right now there are better than the dodgers..

With his price tag only teams that are playoff contenders can afford him. The question is are any of them willing to pay that much for him and so far the answer is no.
He was making plenty with the Yankees and should have stayed there.

A-Rod and Boras can bark at the moon all they want...... I don't see anybody rushing in to sign A-Rod. Hmmmmm.... maybe A-Rod needs the money now that Cynthia is pregnant again and knows he will be paying alimony and child support a year or two down the road

He can want whatever the hell he wants but what he will get is a whole 'nother story.I think that w/o any of the owners talking to each other about it A-Rod will wind up signing for less than the Yankees initially offered him.YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

He wants to be compensated in relationship to his market value just like you, me and everyone else wants to be compensated. Athletes are competitive by nature and I can assure you that A-Rod wants to win just like every other MLB player. Don't mistake the business end of baseball with the desire to win. they are two different issues.

everyone would probaly do that, i mean, if you get a chance to only have a little change, but get paid more money, i mean, i think youd be nuts not to jump at the oppurtunity. so i dont think he is selfish for wanting more money, but he does need to stay put.
