as a sox fan, and knowing that he is an ace in october.

8 million dollars for Curt was a great deal. Honestly talent wise he is a #3 caliber pitcher for most teams, and that is roughly what they are paid. l=Look at what the Padres gave Maddux (10 mil), and in my opinon Curt will pitch better if health is equal.

Of course his talent is not why the RedSoxs signed him back. Boston fans loves him, and his approach to the game. He was the main Reason they won the Series in 04, and the fans will never forget the bloody sock.

You are right he raises his game in October, more than any active pitcher (although Beckett might have pasted him).

Hope for your teams sake, they dont go after A-rod, and hope they get to the WS, but of course lose to my beloved CUBS. You all are going to win atleast 4 over the next 10 years let the Cubs get 1!!!!

I think because they were able to get him for a good price and a reasonable contract for both parties. I think also he is still a good enough pitcher to win his fair share. Also being a veteran player he has a lot to offer the younger kids in the pen and the younger starters as well.

also there has been talk about possible going with a 6 man rotation. This would help guys like Schil, wake and Dice-K(who seems to pitch better with that extra day like in Japan) as well as giving beckett more rest between starts and getting Lester and bucholz (SP?) some game time. this could be a big advantage.

Finally i think the fact that he wants to retire in a Sox uniform and the fact that he is a legend in Boston, the sox and theo probably thought that he would give 100% in 08 to bring home another World Series. thats my 2 cents.

He proved to them that he still had something left in the tank and a reasonably good Schilling is still better than many pitchers today. The Red Sox can't get hurt with a one year contract and if he can help them it will be well worth it.

I think he will retire after this year and he wanted to go out in a Red Sox's uniform. He is also a good influence on the young pitching staff, and a good club house presence.

A couple of reasons I think. One, his market value is less then that of other pitchers available through free agency. Two, he has pitched well during the playoffs resulting in two world championships for the Red Sox since 2004.

It's probably the Red Sox way of saying thanks for his efforts.

Bitter much, devils?

Schilling, himself, insisted upon that weight clause as part of an incentive package, so not only is one of the premiere postseason pitchers of a generation back in Boston at an affordable rate, but he is determined to improve upon this past season by making sure he is in better physical condition, too.

Indeed, Boston does deserve to have him back.

why wouldn't they? He is still worthy of being a starter and can provide excellent mentoring to young pitchers. He was willing to go to other teams but for the $8 mil, it was worth it to stay where he was. He got fair market value and Boston retains a good SP. Sure beats David Wells.

Because he's a blowhard that fits right in with that goofball team and their "genius" GM. Imagine Schilling asking for that $3M incentive weight loss clause. That Fatty Pig Fatty needs $3M worth of incentive to do his job and come to camp in shape. The Sawx deserve that knucklehead.
