An office complex is four stories high. Each floor is roughly 75 meters (yards) by 75 meters. The company wants to create a wireless LAN for the entire complex. Which wireless LAN technology would you recommend? Where would you place the access points? Where would you place the wired backbone?

Well the best thing to do is to place the router in the center of the building in the middle section and get high gain antenna or even better long range antenna will do fine.

with long range intenna you can place the router in the basement and place the antenna outside the building that will cover the entire complex. wireless N is the newest standard the its best for distance and speed, however its so new alot of people dont have the supported card. and its expensive but if money is an issue go with a linksys wrt54g router with tomato or open wrt firmward
that will require a linksys wrt54g version 1 -4 only. best firmward to use with powerful antenna that will probable support the entire block. you have to look around for those antenna though.

saw a video on yooutube with the antenna cover 2 miles i think.

hope this helps

Take a look at Cisco's site to see what exact WAP you want. I use the 1200 series and I would recommend 2 per floor to reduce the possibility of dead spots and run a fiber back bone from floor to floor.

You can have a contractor come out and survey your office for the best possible places to place your WAPs based on al contributing factors, IE EMI, obstacles and simply placement of clients.
Linksys routers are fine for home but have no place in a commercial environment. You will want to configure security on these routers and the residential routers just don't compare.

Really too much to list here but research on Cisco will be a good start.
