I am interested in the los angeles city college. A plus is I will be able to warm up to the "big city" before pursuing my career. (My ambition is to be a great song writer/composer and performer, I sing, play piano, and violin btw.) Also, I have a better chance of getting into a great music school like ucla or usc afterwards. However, the only family member I have near L.A. might be moving to fullerton, and that's about an hour drive! However, I heard that the fullerton community college is great as well! So if any of you can give me your opinions on these schools, or if you know of even better community schools, it will be much appreciated. Thanks alot!!

Okay minmin, I used http://www.assist.org (California college site) to look up LA City --> UCLA --> Music major:

http://www.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=1&sia=LACC&ria=UCLA&ia=LACC&oia=UCLA&aay=07-08&ay=07-08&dora=MUSIC

And did the same for Fullerton to UCLA:

http://www.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=1&sia=FULLRTON&ria=UCLA&ia=FULLRTON&oia=UCLA&aay=07-08&ay=07-08&dora=MUSIC

Most majors list actual classes to take at the CC but I notice it doesn't list any for a music major. However, it DOES tell you the requirements to transfer.

You can get into UCLA from either, but I'd read both and use that to help my decision in what to do.

Lastly, here is a site that shows the stats of transfer students accepted into all the different majors at UCLA. It doesn't look so hot for music majors, but hey, someone has to get in so it might as well be you!

Good luck!

I haven't heard anything about music at the schools you mention, but I know that Long Beach City College has always had a good music program.

The best City College for music is Pasadena City College.

However, what you plan to do is fine. Transfer to the 4 year and you should be ok.
