this question is very complicated. It could be said that life forms have two primal urges-self preservation and reproduction. If this is true, then even humans could not escape it, and that is why we experience such sexual urges, rather than what might be described as rampant pleasure seeking. Sexual behaviors that are apparent to signify pleasure and not reproductive ends have been observed in many animals, such as; apes, monkeys, bats, whales, dolphins, fish, dogs, lizards, tortoise, etc. A good indicator of "pleasure seeking" sexual behavior in animals is homosexuality and masturbation, since these acts cannot result in reproduction. It might also be noted that with very few exceptions (humans), males are the only sex that experience an orgasm, or climax during sex.
