There are usually three ideas that are considered the most cost efficient. These are commonly used, so they must work.

1. Use friends and a U-haul truck or Trailer, if you need help unloading in San Antonio, look for manual labor in the Express News classifieds or on Craigslist.

2. Buy a large truck in Ohio for a good price and drive your furniture down. After you have unloaded it, sell the truck in San Antonio.

3. Contact moving companies and find out if they have any space on incomplete loads coming from your area to San Antonio. They might give you a good rate if you do the packing and they can fill the partially filled truck.

If you are concerned about having help unloading in San Antonio, get a friend from Ohio to ride down with you in whatever vehicle you get, and then return the vehicle to Ohio.

I did once read an article about a man who saved money by buying a used school bus to move his family. He had the old seats removed and stacked to make room in the back, but left some for passengers. He loaded all his household goods into the back of the bus. Those items he could not fit into the bus, he sold and rebought at the new location. When he reached the new location he planned on selling the school bus, but turned it into a camper for his family instead.

Good luck with your move.

Welcome to San Antonio!

It depends on how many household items you intend to move. If all your belongings will fit into a u-Haul truck, that would probably be the cheapest way. If you have a moving company do it, they will charge you for packing, manpower, drivers, etc. But renting a u-haul, you can pay for one way and round trip. Check out both ways and see which is better. Good luck.
