It's possible that there could be something on your mind. Leave yourself about an hour before bed to unwind. Do Not drink black or caffinated tea or coffee, don't go online or watch TV. Read a book, listen to soft music, whatever. You could also try a pill called melatonin. I've realized a few people mention it. Take it about 30 min. before bed... the same time every night. It works great for me. You could also take baths or showers at night. the heat from the shower increases our core temperature, making us more inclined to sleep. Do these things and you should sleep better. Hope I helped!

I got shown this exercises: lie in bed and breath deeply and quietly not to brisk and imagine your feet getting warm and relaxed then your ankles then your legs right up to your shoulders and neck and even your eyes and ears then repeat and go down the body. The power of suggestion should help to relax and drop off. Also I have found a good relaxation CD will help as well, you can usually rent them from your local library. May angels rest on your pillow with you.

A hot bath then a good book with your tea.
Make sure the book isn't too good or you'll get into it & not want to go to sleep. Also, your tea should be made with cream, not lemon & a minimum of sugar.
If this happens to you more than once per week you may want to ask your doctor about sleep aids.

Find a nightly routine that helps you relax. Don't eat about 2-3 hours before you plan to go to bed, or drink caffine, or smoke for the same amount of time before you plan to go to bed. For me, I like to drink milk about an hour before I go to bed, watch a little TV while sitting in my PJ's on my nice comfy couch. Don't watch anything that you think will give you nightmares (scary movies for example). And try not to read anything before going to bed, as it may also give you strange dreams. Also, before you go to sleep, try to clear your mind of the things that are bothering you, and think of some place nice that you would love to be (the beach, maybe).
In addition to all this, you can try forcing yourself to go to sleep at a certain time and waking up at a certain time, everyday, including weekends. This will help put you on a regular schedule.
Amazingly enough, diet affects your sleep as well. The healthier you eat, the better you sleep. So that "eat right and excercise" could actually benefit you in the long run.
You may also want to look into whether or not your mattress and pillows are giving you the support that you need. They could affect your sleep as well.
And when all else fails, there's always sleeping pills!!!!

A cup of green tea and watch a little tele or read for 20 mins. Always works for me. You might want to invest in a good pillow.

Firstly don't go for the pills. Learn to relax. If you can't do this without help, consider joining a group. Think relaxing thoughts. Get some meditational music. Hope this helps.

Do you have a worried mind? Maybe your like me, I procrastinate at bed time because I will just lay there and think about things til I'm more awake and have to get up. Sometimes it seems that I'm not ready for the day to be over, and I find reasons to stay up longer, and wind up being up til 3 in the morning.

They usually say it's smart to only do bed things in your bed. Sleeping and ... you know... So get up if you're on the computer and do it somewhere else. Also, don't go to sleep hungry but don't eat right before bed. You're digestion can keep you up. Don't turn any lights on that are bright and don't do anything that makes your brain work.
Hope this helps

did u drink coffee or tea tonight? Try not to drink caffeinated drinks after 6 p.m. You can try watching a boring movie or reading a book. Get off the Internet. It is too much fun!
