If you had to choose between H&R block Taxcut or Quicken TurboTax, which would it be?

And why?

Personally I use TaxAct, available at taxact.com. The nice part is that downloding the software and doing your federal return is free (I don't recall if it's only paper filing or a free efile). I liked it so much I bought the deluxe version with state.

Having used both programs extensively I just buy on price. If you've never dealt with taxes before, TurboTax has a SLIGHTLY friendlier interface but it isn't as easy to override the calculations as Tax Cut is. So if you're well versed in taxation and have some non-standard situations to deal with, Tax Cut would be your program of choice.

I'm CPA.

I recommend TurboTax to people who want to do taxes on their own. It is easy to understand and walks you through one thing at a time with lots of help screens.

have always found them reliable in terms of calculations and making sure that the latest information is included in their system -- if you buy it early you must run the updates because the IRS often has revisions of things in January and February.
