I take good care of my pets. I have 5 cats and a golden retriever. I recently took my dog to the vet because he wouldn't eat and he acted like he was in pain. After x-rays, blood work, anesthesia, neutering, teeth cleaning...it was 800.00 Nothing was found wrong with him(thank goodness), but after a few days of letting him come in the house every evening to eat and visit..he's back to his old self. I think he was just depressed, so now he's an indoor dog and happier than ever! Animals are helpless and depend on humans to care for them when they're ill.

Well, I don't have a dog but I have 2 hamsters, 2 bearded dragons and 2 cockatiels and it bugs me when people think that I shouldn't take them to the vet because it would be cheaper to replace the animal rather than get it better! Especially happens with the hammies cause they only cost 7-9 bucks but I will do ANYTHING to save my babies!

I've owned dogs, cats, birds and the kids had quite a little petting zoo of different types of animals that each and every one got the absolute best of health care.
I also own a beautiful Racking Horse and the Vet and Farrier (every 7/8 wks) have to come to the barn so there's an added "Barn Call" charge everytime I need anything. Including stitches,twice yearly shots, etc. etc....
I do not care what anyone else thinks other then my hubby who thinks like me ~ what it costs !! Actually I do care, but neverless, she will always be taken care of whatever the $$$....
When my family makes the decision to own an animal, it becomes part of the Family..............

My sister has two chichuauas and a golden retriever. They are like her kids! Penelope (the golden retriver) is like 13 years old. She jokes all the time that she pays more for her
animals than I do for three kids! I do not see anything wrong with taking care of your animals like they are people. They are like part of the family. They are loyal and protective. I have two cats and a black lab, and three kids! I love all 6 of them!!!

I say that to people but not about vet bills, I spent over 3000 dollars on my border collie mix the first year i had her(turns out she is allergic to plastic) vet bills are essential but i say that about designer pet clothes and Eco-friendly heated dog houses and other stuff like that. never about vet bills :)

our pets are part of our families and need proper medical attention too. you would never say "you spent $800 on blood pressure medication for grandma? but shes old" The next time someone reacts like that ask them how much they spend on lattes or in text messeging charges each month. You did the right thing for your beloved pet.

It does not make me mad, but I do feel that I am dealing with ignorant pet owners/people if they are commenting on necessities like healthy food or vet bills.

No, it frustrates me when people fail to understand the difference between people and animals.
I've suggested many times here on Y!A (mostly to those complaining about vet bills, or those paying insane amounts of money to prolong the life of a dying animal) that they spend that money on a person instead of an animal.
Animals cost money, and they can be wonderful companions, but they aren't people.

Uncaring people do make me mad. Your pets are obviously thinking and feeling individuals and not just things to own for ones amusement. They are lucky to have you in their family.

oh, a girl after my own heart! my dogs are big, so i buy them food that has glucosamine and chondrotin. yes, most people think i'm nuts, but that's cool because I think most PEOPLE are nuts!
