The C5 corvette that you're looking at has the LSX series of motor in it. More specifically, it's a LS1. They're extremely reliable engines and will run well into the six figures. Remember that the LS1 also has a timing chain, so you won't have a timing belt to worry about.
The best C5 corvettes are the later model years. Beginning in 2001, the intake manifolds were updated and consequently the horsepower jumped on the car. Before was 345 hp and 350 torque, after the new intake manifold, 350 hp and 375 torque.

I drive a 96 and I can say that its been very reliable to me. The best advice is to buy the newest car in the best condition you can afford. Get a 96 if you buy a C4, the model year incorporates all the improvements Chevy made to that platform over 13 years. You will likely spend more money on replacing worn interior items like seats, door panels, and weatherstrip than keeping the engine running on a later C4. A later C5 will get you more horsepower and torque in the base engine and the C5 got better too. The C5 has a better interior and has a more rigid frame and more power than a C4. Get the maintenance records before purchasing, if it was taken care of it should be very reliable. Drive both generations, they have a different feel. These cars easily run to 200,000 miles and beyond if well cared for.

I own a shop, and if you intend to purchase any used vehicle, it is always best to have a mechanic go over the car before you buy it. Not knowing who owned a car, or how bad they beat on it, sure makes it tough to say "yes" its a good car. Some teenage kid could have driven it, and it could have been wrecked many times over, so before you buy, have it checked over for a clean bill of health. Basically they are good vehicles, but make sure before you take that plunge.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
