They were allies, but due to their vast separation, more or less ran their own separate wars against a large number of common enemies. Had Hitler won in Europe, he'd have had his troops on the trains heading east to finish off the Japanese, who were right up there in Adolf's bff list with the Jews, the Catholics, the Gypsies, invalids and mentally incompetent, not to mention anyone without blue eyes, blond hair and a last name of Hitler.

They were allies. But the reason the United States entered World War II was because Japan attacked American soil in Hawaii. It's possible that America would not have sent troops to fight Germany if this had not occurred. Before that, Americans were sending some aid, weapons, etc. to aid Britain, France, Belguim, and the other European countries being invaded by Germany, but we weren't sending troops.
Coincidentally, Russia was our ally in WWII, mainly because we shared enemies. Although the cold war began after WWII, and Russia was then seen as our arch enemy.
MacArthur was largely responsible for changing the culture in Japan (by forcing their Emperor into a submissive position.) During this war, the Japanese were ruthless and sent their men into battle without the hope of coming out alive, or a view toward taking prisoners alive. They really viewed people as disposable and did not follow the "conventions of war."
What I believe is so powerful about this war is a classic "good vs. evil" premise with good winning against all odds. Also, this was a war in which the good rallied. Every American, no matter their age or location, sacrificed money, loved ones, gasoline, nylons, sugar (with rations,) worked in factories, had Victory gardens, bought bonds to fund the war effort, knit for the troops. Today, we are at war, and most Americans live life as though no war is present. But during WWII, the war was a part of every American's real experience. And every American did their part to support the war effort. And there was a very real shared and heartfelt purpose.
By the way, on Veteran's Day, and every day. Thank you, American military, of all wars, and peacetime, for your sacrifice and willingness to serve your country. I appreciate you.

Germany and Japan did not help each other out in any way, besides for splitting the American troops between two fronts. It was not like, Japan attacked the U.S. to help Germany or Germany did anything to help Japan.

You might take a peek at a history book.
Germany, Japan and Italy were allies during WW2. You may be confused (obviously) by the different THEATERS in which the war was fought. European-Pacific-N. African-Mediterranean in which different foes were encountered.

Yes, they had a pact. When Japan attacked the US fleet at Pearl Harbor, Germany declared war on the USA two days later.

Yes. Germany and Japan signed a treaty that would make them allies. Check your history and you will see that the germans and japanese where hellbent on world domination. The U.S and her allies smacked both of them down like flys on a wall.
