okay, here me out. should we make voters take a test with questions such as "where does 'so and so' stand on immigration?" and "which candidates voted against authorizing the Iraq war?", etc.
this way you're only allowed to vote if you know what youre voting for and where candidates stand on the issues and have a general idea of their voting record, etc.
I think that would give much better election results because only educated votes would count instead of the vast amounts of "guess" votes that cause people like Bush and Cheney to be elected.

As Much as I hate Bush and did not vote for him I would never say there needs to be a test before someone could vote for him or anyone. A friend of mine who is a political science instructor at our college voted for Bush, a person I know at work this guy is as dumb as a stump awalys votes democratic because he says republicans are evil! sad to say there are dumb people who vote that are both democrats and republicans.

Yes. I have never understood why a 15 year old genius cannot vote but a 32 year old moron can.
Robert Heinlein had an interesting idea. On election day you enter the voting booth and insert $100 into the slot. You are asked 5 random questions that any high school graduate can answer. Such as 1)Solve this quadratic equation using the FOIL method. Prove your answer.
2)In what years were the Civil War fought?
3)Why did Martin VanBuren fail in his reelection bid?
4)Who signed the Emancipation Proclamation and why?
5)List 7 of the 10 freedoms guaranteed in the Bill of Rights.
If you correctly answer 4 out of 5 then you get your $100 back and can vote. 3 or less correct you lose the $100 and can't vote. Sounds like a good plan to me.

No, everyone gets to vote. That's democracy. How they choose to use that right is their business. It's like having been given life, you get to live it even though some people appear to others as throwing their life away. It's a matter of opinion.
Some people operate on a purely intuitive level, and that's how they are. Just like some people are purely analytical and are uncomfortable without facts. We all know politicians lie and flip flop. Some people have a killer instinct for knowing who's lying, and vote accordingly.
An official voter pamphlet is important. It should summarize the candidates' background and official stance on issues. Many busy professionals have limited time to research each candidate in depth. An easy to read summary is all that's needed.

obviously you do not have to do much at all If you wish not to vote join the exclusive brethren and you will not have too under religious laws as God lives in Sydney Australia and Mr Bruce Hales thinks he is that person.
To all other christians l do apolgise for this crazy man going around saying this...
The worst part there is a lot of people who believe this dillusional man who prays on the weakness and insecurities of others to make his billions of dollars.
He recieves millions from the Australian government to build schools in which he teaches the TRUTH and the TRUE faith.
for those who want further information see the blog below there is great stuff on the EB
Exclusive Brethren
As l said if you join a sect you will not have to and as for a test do not be so silly.
I as a citizen of Australia have a god given right to vote and even if my opinion differs from the whole country it does not matter.
That is what we have in australia
DEMOCRACY
well we do just for the moment anyway.
we have elections on the 24th so after that l cannot be so sure as we do not know what the Liberals will do.

Apparently you are a college graduate. There are two smarts, one in school and one in life. I would rather have smarts in life then know all the information anyone can learn in school. What makes you think that just because someone has a high IQ or goes to Harvard is any better then an average Joe on the street or a homeless person who has the friggen right to vote! Oh yeah by the way if you would know your American history you would know that voting is a privilege and right that was bestowed on us by our founding fathers who were not all that educated.

Reportedly Americans do no exercises their votes due to indifference to the voting process. Do they require fuhrer testing? Then the voting percent drops to single digits.

Probably ease of voting may be required. Electronic voting from the comfort of their homes like Internet banking may be a way to induce such indifferent voters.

What country are you asking about. I hope it's not the USA. Never read in the constitution that I have to be educated to vote. To me.....common sense still prevails. If you are old enough to vote you should have learned how to see through the veneer of the candidates.

Even stupid people have the right to vote. Look at the numbers though, the less educated vote in much lower numbers.

should people be required to pass a test before they vote?

You need to look at the history books, this has been done in the pass and found to illegal, because it penalized the illiterate.
