Earlier I posed a question about my gf and how she cries everytime she watches a movie and I wanted to know how I could make it stop, b/c I dont like to see her cry. One of the respondents to my question said "I dont no why men are afraid of crying women" and I honestly dont no why I am afraid of it either?

it's called catharsis... you know like an emotional cleansing... it's totally ok, some people "feel" and experience the movie more intensely than others... last time i cried it was for "notebook"... pretty sad and all...

ps- did you see guys supposedly cry at Rudy and Rocky... interesting...

She could be crying because she's just a bit of a softy and that perfectly ok. Or it could be something deeper that she just doesn't want to talk about, so when she watches sad movies it gives her an excuse to let it all out. If it is the latter, you just need to comfort her without judgement, one day she might actually confide in you about what haunts her because she will realize that you can be strong for her when she is incapable of doing it herself. The sooner you come to terms with the fact that there is no remedy for a tearful woman, the less it will bother you. Remember that crying is a stress-reliever. At least you know you have a woman that is capable of caring.

I don't think so. Guys aren't allowed to be weak and vulnerable. We're supposed to be the rock, the one whose chest they can bury their heads in and cry, the ones they depend on for support and stability. Crying is very unmanly. I mean there are exceptions, like death of a family member and such, but a man who comes home and cries because he had a bad day at work is probably not the most attractive to women.

This is just 2 cents of psychology from an insurance man, but here goes.

It probably has something to do with the fact that whenever we've seen a woman (or anyone else) cry when we were children, it was associated with something bad happening. So if we saw our mother or grandmother or even a male crying, we learned that there was some type of bad thing that's going on. So, when we see women cry now, we unconsciously get the same feeling of something bad going on when they cry, and so we try to stop them.

Isn't afraid too strong a word? lol
My girlfriend often cries while watching tearjerkers so I always make sure a good supply of tissues is within reach. Then, when the deluge starts, she usually cuddles herself in my arms.
Makes for a nice intimate moment :)
The only time I get scared is when I come back from mountain biking with mud all over me and she gives me that angry look! LOL
Why don't you rent "The Man Who Cried" starring Christina Ricci & Johnny Depp and give it a whirl :)

For the last 2000 years, women have taught men to be chivalrous. Crying is female-speak for a woman wanting to be rescued.

It is simply a manipulation technique. When my girlfriend cries, I give her 20 seconds to stop or I will end our relationship. She typically responds with "You are so cold!", after which I say "Deal with it, honey.".

Its amazing how quickly the crying stops.

methinks men are ever so slightly jealous of women... 0;^)

God gave us tears because we have soooo much that we must bear, that there has to be a way to let out our overflowing abundance of what makes us women. Men have them too, but they use them sparingly because Adam was designed to be strong, and supportive, and if a man is crying, he is either completely overflowingly happy or he is in the depths of despair (or pain)...

Eve was designed to heal herself with her cleansing tears. I cry when I am sad, or angry. When there is so much pain. I cry when I am extremely frustrated or confused. It is an outlet... a way to relieve stress. But I also cry when I am happy, filled to the brim with joy. I cry when I am completely washed over in relief, in love, in laughter. If I could not cry, the dam inside that holds back the ocean of my heart would burst. And I would be left completely dry, all shriveled up inside, unable to feel or think or hope or cope or empathize. So that is why women have been given the gift of freeflowing tears.

You need not do anything but love her, and accept that tears are a woman's natural way of expressing herself.

because a man wants his woman happy. if she's not happy and feels sad and cries, he feels inadequate and inefficient. He considers himself a failure that is one reason why men afraid of crying women. So i am calling to all women, you maybe a wife or gf, its good to cry... but please don't show depression by extreme crying when watching a movie or even in reality especially when your man is around. Because if he feels that the woman they love is not happy and always cry for any reason at all, despite all of the efforts he's making, he soon gets tired of his role and moves away from the relationship because he knows he cannot expect gratitude from his partner.

She doesn't want you to make her stop. It is normal to cry at a touching movies or some story that touches you. I can't read those chicken soup for the soul books as I just lose it every time - Next time she cries, don't do anything - she will stop sooner that way.

i'll tell you exactly why, two words "mood swing". there's a reason why the saying goes "hell hath no fury like a WOMAN scorned", not a man, a woman. just remember that next time she cries, cause if she's crying and you say even one little thing wrong then she's gonna come after you like a lion after an antelope.

It's hard to explain really. Women have the emotial cord that men don't have. Some movies are just real tear jerkers as well. PMS doesn't help. That only makes it worse. Not that you needed to know that. But it's a heads up though so you don't say something to upset her when it hits.
