Having been alive and relatively sentient in the 70s, I distinctly remember Aerosmith having made it long before Run DMC was a twinkle on the charts.
Collaboration with them served to introduce Aerosmith to a different audience.
That being said, I still don't care much for Aerosmith.

Yes, they were the established band at that point, and Run DMC was the new kids. Aerosmith already had a large following form years before. They would have put out something to rekindle that, it just happened to be "walk this way" with Run DMC.

R U kidding? Aerosmith became a band in 1970. First album titled "Aerosmith" was released January 1973, on Columbia records. Aerosmith made Run DMC, without them suburban kids would of never worried about Run DMC and probably rap. I hate Aerosmith, liked Run DMC, and hate both 4 makin' cRAP mainstream (sorry Rap). 95% rap ever made is awful. 4.9% is tolerable, rest is acceptable.

Ofcourse! It was Run DMC who used Aerosmith's song "Walk This Way".

By the way, Aerosmith is still around. Where's Run DMC?

You must be pretty young. Aerosmith have been around for more than a few decades. They'd already 'made it' by that time. If the question was more towards whether or not they had been given 'new life', I think it's arguable that Run DMC gave them a jumpstart.

AeroSmith had made it a long, long time before Run DMC was ever even thought of.

When Aerosmith performed a three-day concert at Boogie Hill in 1976, Run DMC wasn't there and they seemed to be just fine all by their lonesome.
