It can make it harder to get pregnant because it alters the chemicals in your body. I quit taking my meds months before I got pregnant but I know not everyone can do that. If she can go off for at least a while it might help her to concieve and I know the doctors like to have pregnant women get through the first trimester without any meds. Anti depressants are grade C drugs, which means that they can have the potential to harm the baby. After the first trimester all major organs are developed for the most part so then they say it's a little safer. I would have her talk to her doctors about it. Not just the psychologist or regular doctor but also her gyno and let them all know what she is trying to do and what she would like to do and get as much info as possible. It is possible to go your whole pregnancy without meds no matter what they may say to her. I have been off them since Feb. of 07, I got pregnant in May 07 and I'm 26 weeks pregnant and haven't need them meds. I feel great and I'm not dealing with the bipolar symptoms. I hope this helps and tell her good luck. Oh yea and no matter what other people say she can have a happy healthy baby and it may even help her with her depression. Good luck!

The medication won't effect her chances of conceiving; however, she needs to consider getting off the medication before getting pregnant because it's recommended that expecting mothers do not take anti-depressants while pregnant (newborn may undergo withdrawls from it). She will need to speak with her doctor about this and then slowly reduce the amount of medication she is taking until her body is weaned off it.

when a woman is trying to get pregnant and she is on anti-depressants she is suppose to go off of them SLOWLY. She needs to talk to a doctor about it first though. I don't know if she is severly depressed or not but she needs to be safe. Most women do not take anti-depressants when pregnant because of the affects it can have on the baby. Tell her she needs to talk to her doc

see in case you are able to lay off the meds for slightly, to make it slightly greater natrual. seeing a doctor is a physically powerful theory becausee any pills you're taking the baby gets besides. so in case you're taking anti depressants and you get pregnant, the new child would be taking them too. however the acceptable i will say is touch a doctor. they didnt bypass with the aid of 3 hundred years of med college for not something.

Google the medication with the term side effects.
I know off hand that lithium inactivates thyroid hormone. This can prevent fertility, increase miscarriages and decrease libido.
Here are some links to thyroid info and depression info:
