YES! Ignorance is not bliss; it gets you killed! No, we cannot put our health in the hands of the FDA. What can it do? A lot of Americans are already obese. That organization is not out to protect any one, so protect yourself! There's lots of foods that I may pick up to eat and don't eat because I looked at the label; I'm just instantly turned off seeing all the gunk that's in the product. And what about those accursed synthetic vitamins!? Everything's so darned enriched that you can successfully overdose on vitamins without trying!

I always check ingredients and I think it is absolutely gross how most parents are filling their kids and families with so many hidden sugars, fats and additives. After having done my homework on foods I began to realize actually how bad so many things are for you. Now, about 6 months later, I'm a vegetarian and I have lost weight slowly but steadily and it is lifetime weight loss, I eat my meals and my new lifestyle is great. I feel like I have more energy during the day and I sleep better at night. I advise everyone to look into vegetarianism and veganism!

As Americans we can never fully rely on the government to do what is best for us, we have to take some responsibility for ourselves.
I always read what is in the foods we eat. I cook most of what we eat, though we do get junk food at times too.
I am to the point that I pretty much no what this chemical is or that one. Hard to stay away from some of them when they are added to everything these days :0(
Take not that soaps, shampoos, toothpaste are also full of added sugars and chemicals our bodies absorb. Amazes me how much sugar parents are giving there children in there toothpaste!! Everything we put onto our body is absorbed into our bodies, remember that the next time you see a women with all that make up on her face......
We need to be aware of not only food these days..... :0(

I can't even find the ones I can't pronounce in the dictionary?! Are they really necessary? You would think that because FOOD is our FUEL it would have had a more important role in our lives and not let to become as toxic as it has. IMHO the FDA sells out to the highest bidder or holds out til the price is right or they would be doing the job we pay them to. The whole government has lost its way and forgotten who they work for. Sad, isn't it? What are we to do? Shop.

Yes, I always read the ingredients on what I buy. I try to prepare only fresh meals. Sometimes I jsut don't have time. Omg I bought some of those donettes, the hostess kind, I read the ingredients. They have beef fat in them. Tell me where beef fat belongs in donettes.

All the time. That's one of the reasons I avoid food with crazy chemicals. I care too much about my health and well being to willingly put all those carcinogens into my system.

I dont. The number of ingredients is just too long to check all your groceries. I figure if there's a problem with the food, I'll here the recall on the news and I'll stop buying it.

I do that a lot, and yes I do think twice about eating it if some ingredients are questionable.

I scan all prepackaged food because my husband is mildly allergic to onions and garlic. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find prepared food without these two ingredients! (except for sweets, that is). I also make all soup from scratch (and I scan any canned ingredients); also I make pizza sauce and sometimes ketchup from scratch. Oh yeah, and I cook for my dogs too.

I always read the ingredients. Being vegetarian you pretty much have to make sure that the food does not contain anything meat related in it.
