It is possible, it would mean to leave 5.30ish, and returning 23:00, giving you about 8 hours in Paris.
There is a later train, involving traveling through Switzerland. You can even return at 3 in the morning.
Depending on when you travel, and how early you book, prepare to pay about €200.
There is a hop-on hop-off bus in Paris, but with just 8 hours you might prefer a faster 'stay-on' bus and return to the few places you have the need to see.
