each person shakes hands 5 times because there are five other people in the room.

6 people times 5 = 30

each handshake involves 2 people, so 30 / 2 = 15 unique handshakes.

I was thinking 15, because you will shake hands yourself with 5 people, that will have those people shake with 4 others, than the 4 others with 3 others . . . so on and so forth:
5+4+3+2+1 = 15
