Now the air we breathe is a problem . Now they have been selling machines to clean the air in our homes. What about the outside air ? Los Angeles air quality has got to be the worst place then anywhere, you can't even see one star at night . We are so over populated it's crazy . 101 fwy jammed all the time . To many kids in a class room . How do you keep so many kids interested in school subjects with so many children with one teacher who can't give individual attention when required and it's not there fault ? When your child gets behind and you start communicating with the teacher to bring up his grades and with one month left till summer and a grade goes up from a D to a B help me understand how can that happen in a month? Bottom line our taxes are going where???? It's sickens me. Freeway walls get built and people adopt the wall they gave money to build . 25% of homeless people are the kids that came home from war they fought for us and they have no place to go.

Does anyone else think this description reads like Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire".

Hypodermics on the Shore, China's under marshal law, rock-n-roll the cola wars, I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE. We didn't start the fire, it was always burning since the world was turning.

ah well I remember 20 years ago when CONSERVATIONISTS started telling people that our air is being polluted and people scoffed at them.. I remember when we'd just drink the water out of the garden hose or the POND in the back yard.... NOT ANY MORE... I remember when we'd be inside and just run the kitchen tap for a nice cold drink.... now we lug jugs home from the grocery store... have we been CONDITIONED to think our air and our water are all unsafe now or, were those early conservationists CORRECT? I don't buy my water from the store, but I do not drink it out of the tap either----because there is WHITE GAS in my water....and it smells funny. We have a state park up the road that has a beautiful spring fed well and MANY people can be seen there daily getting the fresh water from that well and MINERAL water from the other side of that well. Yep, Saratoga State Park in NY. This world started falling apart in the 60's and has continued to do so ever since....The first set of soldiers who came home to NOTHING and were treated like crap were the VIETNAM VETS.... at least todays' soldiers come home to a much warmer welcome SO FAR anyway... our classrooms are really no bigger then they were in toe 50's and 60's when I went to school except MAYBE in the smaller towns because they started getting bigger after the 60's and the superhighways were all being built.. but in MY small town, we had 30 - 32 kids per class and that seems to be the average in the school rooms where I live now....what HAS changed is there are less teachers so less SUBJECTS are being taught... Schools are even starting to give up there BLESSED SPORTS programs in favor of the basics because there just is no money.... kids grades CAN change in a month because the teacher might give them a TON of extra work to complete and if they complete it, their grade goes up.... BUT if someone somewhere doesn't take a GOOD look around and realize what resources we have readily been using and abusing, my GRANDCHILDREN may have to walk around wearing gas masks IF we manage to stay out of a nuclear war until then....

To address your air and water quality issue, I would suggest a move to a less densely populated area.

I visited Los Angeles twice and both times I was unimpressed. I could never possibly endure living there.

To address your schooling issue, there is always home schooling. Home schooling is becoming more and more attractive as the public schools continue degrading.

Most of the negative factors of home schooling have been well adressed. Here, we have a home schooling "club" which organises sports, outings, plays, dances and other social functions. And parents work together teaching each others' kids so the burden is not so great on any particular set of parents.

And, best of all, large universities (Yale included) are looking favourably at home-schooled kids as their academic levels and study habits are superior to those from public schools.

Well, you can always do like everyone else who has those problems do in Kalli-forn-yah, get a gun, go to the nearest school, and blow away everybody. Just think, 100 years ago, you could drink municipal water and die of typhoid or dysentary or cholera. At least, that is some progress.
