Maybe a country does not need a written constitution. Great Britain, for example, operated under a system of legal precedents set by judges known as "common law," which endured for centuries as the primary source of criminal and civil laws throughout the realm. Later, after Parliament acquired legislative powers, statutory law began to limit the scope of common law in some areas; however, even today common law retains its status as an essential element of the British legal system.

One way to answer your question is to ask: What would life be like in a nation WITHOUT a written constitution, and what alternatives might exist to ensure stable government?

The Constitution is the only law of this land, and its your rights as an American citizen.
All should know their rights as an American citizen, and make sure that rights are served by all elected officials.
Lawyers in America suck, sad that you would even have to ask such a question, all law is to abide by the Constitution of the United States
If anyone knows of a good lawyer that represents a citizen by their rights, I sure would like to know this lawyer, most lawyers are as corrupt as our government.

At It's most ideal, a constitution is the fundamental law of the state, it contains its principles upon which the government is based and helps in guiding and leading to the divisions of the sovereign powers.

It's like the mission and vision statement, :) it guides each person of certain positions on the boundaries of their power and participation, and the manner that they are to be exercised.

A constitution is the operating manual for the country. It lets people know what is expected of them, and what they can expect of their government. You wouldn't run your own house without a set of rules, there would be chaos.
