My parents named me that.
What do you think of it when you hear it?
My mom would've named me Ashley but my dad won the argument.
Do you think that was a mistake? [Don't say I was a mistake.]

I think it's great your dad's classic style won out over the trendier, more popular choice. ;) Both common, but at least Rebecca is timeless. I wish my own parents' tastes had melded in a similar manner, but my mom's trendiness won out, unfortunately. LOL

As others have mentioned, Rebecca offers some versatility Ashley doesn't. You could just as easily use popular nicknames Becky or Becca, or even less common Reba or Ruby! :) Great options.

My name is Rebecca and I think it is a bit over used. Maybe not so much today, but 30 or so years ago there were alot of Rebecca's. I went to small private school and had an average of 15 people in the graduating classes and in my class there were 3 Rebecca's. I don't "hate" my name, but I do wish my parents would have named me something different. I go by Becky now, but whenever I suggest Rebecca as a middle name for someone I always suggest Rebekah, it's the Biblical spelling and it's a little different than the norm.

I think Rebecca is a very pretty name. I named my daughter Ashley, at the time I had never known an Ashley but after I named her, Ashleys were everywhere- it is such a common name now. Rebecca is classic and classy and not overly common. Though I love the name Ashley, Rebecca was definitely a good choice

Rebecca is way better than Ashley. while its quite common, it's not as common as Ashley. i'm cursed with a common name and in school there were always at least 3 other girls with the same name as me. and there were a lot of Ashleys too. at least with Rebecca there is a glimmer of hope that there wont be another Rebecca in your class. i prefer the spelling Rebekka or Rebekah but i guess you're stuck with what you've got. regardless of the spelling, it's a pretty name.

I think of the book Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier. Great gothic mystery. It's a beautiful, classic name. To me, Ashley is much fluffier. I dislike all names ending in that "ee" sound. Rebecca was not a mistake. Wear it with pride.

Rebecca is a terrific name!
A classic female name that you share with one of my favorite aunts. Guess that makes me biased.
Ashley would have been good, too, but I like Rebecca better. I haven't known any bimbos named Rebecca, as opposed to Ashley. . . .

Rebecca is better than Ashley, in my opinion. I like it because you can do so much with it as far as nicknames or professional names.
