alyssa, my dear, what you want is THICKNESS. Since you have 1 gram of Al with 2.7 g/cc density, this gives you a VOLUME of 1/2.7 or about 0.39 cc. If you shape this into a block with a surface of 35 cm^2, the blocks volume is surface area x THICKNESS. Then 35 x thickness = 0.39, and thickness is slightly more than 0.01 cm (1/10 th of a millimeter).
