Per month? Unless she's growing like a weed, there's no need to go buy clothes every month. We normally do "big" shopping twice per year, summer and winter clothes. In between we buy other things when necessary.

You buy clothes every month? Dear Lord, I got clothes at Christmas, on my birthday, or if I bought it myself. The only time I got something outside those prescribed times was when it was necessary like new underwear or socks...or I outgrew my shoes.

What in the world does a 10 to 12 year old need new clothes for every month? I don't know anyone that buys clothes that often for their kids.

If they are under that much pressure to dress just so then maybe they need some serious lessons in not being superficial. I suppose they have to have clothes from certain stores, by a certain designer as well.

What does that teach a child? Money falls from the sky. I don't have to wait on anything? I must please everyone else? It sooooo matters what others think of me. My world will end if I don't have the right outfit. I am better than others because I wear the right clothes. What is on the outside is way more important than what is on the inside.

Just a few thoughts. I have two brothers with 11 year old girls and they spend a few hundred dollars when school starts, at Christmas and on a birthday. So I suppose that comes out to $1,000 to $1500 a year. Divide that up and it's about $100 a month.

My kids are a little younger, (6 and 8) but I'll still let you know what we do. I understand you asking "per month" even though you don't buy every month...you should still save something every month for when you do need to make a trip. We usually go on 2 big trips a year (right before school and right before summer vacation starts. I get out the stuff that was stored from last year, and we try everything on, to see what still fits, and decide from there what they will need.

Generally, between us and the grandparents, we spend about $400 each for school clothes (you need more clothes and nicer ones for school) and $200 for summer clothes. I may spend another $100 or so throughout the year, replacing clothes that are damaged (my kids are really clumsy, and rip/stain their clothes often) and maybe for a special occassion outfit (for a wedding or something). So somewhere around $700 to $900 a year per child (breaks down to $60 to $75 a month per child.)

I have an 11 year old and I only buy her clothes when she needs them. We may go months before she gets a new shirt or pants or even shoes. We are on a very tight budget so I tend to set aside money for things like that. I just spent about $80 on her for 3 pairs of pants for school and 2 outfits.

Um, everybody is different. It's a matter of how much you can afford - not your problem if her friends parents can afford more. And it's a matter of how important it is to her - she's old enough to be making trade offs between clothes, games, movies, whatever - how much can you spend on her total? - how much of that would she like to spend on clothes vs. something else?

Finally, it's a matter of earning things - it isn't good for them to get stuff because they beg or whine - getting good grades, being nice to parents, helping out around the house, there are so many ways to earn more shopping money - or, for some kids, so many ways to blow any hope of every getting any shopping money. Give her well defined achievable goals with specific rewards and she what she does about it.

Well i dont buy clothes every month. Thats a little excessive. I probobly spend about $350 a year. (not including shoes). We shop a lot at second hand stores. cause they have all the name brand stuff they want and its about 1/10 the cost. We have three girls so a lot of stuff gets handed down too.

My sister is a single mom and get barely anything for child support, so my 10 year-old niece doesn't get new clothes every month. A kid doesn't need to have new ones every month in the first place. They just need to be taught how to take care of the things they have.
