Mount Everest was still the highest mountain, discovered or not makes no difference in its height.

Everest's height is measured from sea level, but the biggest mountain in the world is actually mostly underwater, and exceeds the height of Everest by over 3/4 mile when measured from it base on the ocean floor. Mauna Loa, on the Island of Hawaii in the Hawaiian Island chain is the world's biggest mountain, but the tallest is actually Mauna Kea which stands about 350 feet taller above sea level than Mauna Loa. The only difference between these mountains and Mount Everest is most of these mountains are underwater.

Before Everest was discovered the highest KNOWN mountain in the world (ie, measured) was Chimborazo in Ecuador. Of course, today we know that at 20565 feet, Chimborazzo is not even the highest mountain in South America.
Chimborazo still has one claim to fame; its summit is the furthest point from the centre of the earth, so by one definition it IS the highest mountain.
