Act like babies that are about to freeze when the temp gets below 50 degrees?

'm a Detroiter, and that's fairly warm to tell the truth.

Shizzy, why in the south, I have to drive nearly 20 blocks to get back around to where I need to be, or why are the streets so narrow and cookie-cutter style?

I was born in Arizona and lived there until I was 6. I moved to Wisconsin and have lived here until today. Now I am a 22 year old college student who still gets cold as soon as the temp breaks below 60 or so. I even wear flannel lined pants throughout the Midwest winter (basically August through June). Believe it or not, there is actually a scientific reason for this. First of all, genetics play a large part into body warmth. Being a little fatter allows a body to retain more heat. I am 6 feet 170 pounds with like 5% body fat. Obviously I don't have a whole lot of covering to hold in warmth. Cardiovascular systems also have an effect. Some people have very "open" cardiovascular systems (arteries and veins). Personally, my veins always look like I just finished an intense workout. Having your veins close to the surface of your skin promotes cooling in the body (a term called vasodialation). Finally, the amount of iron in one's blood affects warmth retention. The more iron one has, the more warmth one can hold in. Hope this helps to account for us Southerners who cling to our North Face jackets in 50 degree weather.

We don't. I went to school at Appalachian State (you know, the school that kicked Michigan's butt), and it's in the NC mountains. We walked around in shorts up there when there was snow on the ground. If you want to see some really cold natured people, go to Arizona. People there walk around with jackets on when it's 90 degrees outside.

I hear ya! I live in Iowa and 50 isn't too bad. I had a friend that moved here from Florida, she would have to get a coat if it got below 60.

For the same reason you complain about the "humidity" in the summertime. You don't KNOW humidity.

Why do people in Detroit treat a two lane road as if it were a 4 lane road just because it's wide enough to park on? I don't think there's any room for actions of superiority coming from that city...

Theyre used to the 70 degrees and warmer temperatures.
Just like 50 degrees is normal to you,
around 70 degrees is normal to them so when the temp. lowers, it seems cold for them because they are not used to that climate/weather

If its not below 32 degrees I don't even break out the wintercoat... I save it until its cold ....about 10-15.

A few reasons, we don't have that many days of cold weather so it's harder for our bodies to adjust. Living in rural Arkansas when the weather gets cold, icy or snowy we don't have the equipment or manpower to clear the roads off. The humidity is higher and it feels colder than if you have lower humidity. Ya'll are all welcome to come visit us for a few days, we have beautiful weather.
