Throughout my whole pregnancy, the baby pretty much had a regular routine where he would move a lot around the time I layed down to go to bed. I paid for a 3D ultrasound and had to do 2 sessions because he wouldn't move at all in the first one, and at the second one he did the same. Everyone is telling me that my baby is lazy and its not normal for him to be so inactive. When my sister was pregnant, her baby was sooo active and you could see which body parts were which. Her baby is the same way out of the tummy. Whenever I do feel him move and try to tell them to feel it, he stops. Lately I hardly ever feel him moving around. Is it normal?

I don't know how long you have noticed your baby to be less active than you think is normal, but at 38 weeks, most likely he just has run out of room. If it's your first baby, you don't really have anything to compare it to other than what other people say, and how do they know how much or less you're actually experiencing? It's quiet normal for them to be 'asleep' or hard headed when you get an ultrasound! happens all the time! Just like after you have him and want him to do something cute he's done for you for others, and he won't and they won't believe you! :-)
You have to think of how squished he is in there, possibly even being bent with his legs/feet up by his face! It is also normal for babies to slow down movement noticeable prior to going into labor. But, if you think it's something abnormal, or you haven't felt him move at all for several hours, I'd ask my OB, or go in for a visit just to ease your mind!

He is moving less because he is out-growing his space. He should still be moving at least 10 times a day though not a vigorously as before.

When he is less active, try eating or drinking something sugary--like orange juice--and see if he doesn't start moving more. Babies, like children, respond readily to sugars by becoming "hyper".

And really he isn't more active when you lay down to go to bed; you are just less active and more tuned into his moving.

Being able to see baby's body parts has some to do with how over weight the mother is: the more padding you have, the less you would be able to identify baby's body part trying to push out. No, I am not calling you fat; just stating a fact of life.

I'm 38 weeks and my baby is the same way. My doctor says he should move 10 times in a 2 hour period and if not call her so that I can go in for a stress test. You should call your doctor when you think your baby isn't moving enough. They will monitor your baby's heartbeat and movements. Also, if baby doesn't move that much you can drink something cold and sweet and lay on your left side. That should help. Good luck with everything..

This is very normal. Once you get this far, the baby is running out of room and tends to just calm down a little more. Your baby is Not lazy. That is a silly thing for people to tell you. Don't worry, Soon he will be here!

Good luck and try to get some rest here at the end of your pregnancy!

Even though he's moving a little bit I would go to the Doctors and ask for another ultra sound done to make sure he is OK! I had a girlfriend that was pregnant and she was almost due to have her baby she went 2 days without feeling any movement and when she went into labor her little girl had passed away from the umbilical cord being wrapped around her neck so do not let this go un resolved I urge you to make sure things are still OK

If I feel like he's not moving enough, my doctor suggests to do fetal counts. She tells me to drink a sugary drink like juice and wait like 15 min. Then lay down and start counting how many times your baby moves. If he moves at least 6 times in an hour it's ok. If he doesn't move at all or very low, call the doctor. I'm currently 37 weeks and it's worked each time.

I was always told that I should be able to get 8-10 movements in an hours time. Not every hour, but if I laid down and drank water. Stuff that makes a baby move. at 38 weeks your baby is running out of room to do to much moving. Hopefully he is in place and waiting to come out!!

yes. the baby doesnt have much room to move therefore it is common for their movement to not be very much and ease down towards the end of preg. also the comment on when the baby moves and you tell them to feel and then he stops thing...happens to me too!!! its really frustrating because I want my bf to feel him move but the second he puts his hand on my stomach he stops!!! lol

your baby is not being lazy or anything he is just sleeping

im sure everything is ok...all babies are different...some more active than others so the fact that your sisters baby was more active than yours i wouldnt worry about.

congrats on the preg! your so close!

The baby is not "lazy", he's just running out of room right now. Ths is normal. My daughter was not active at all in the womb, whereas my son is moving all the time. Every child is different.
