I'm really good at it for the like, the first paragraph... then I start to psyche myself out. As I speak, I start to hear my own voice in my head saying "haha everybody's looking at you!" and things like "oooh don't stutter!" and still other little seeds of self doubt like "OMG I bet you're redder in the face then a beet!"
Then just as I'm really starting to shake and feel nauseous, I hear ANOTHER voice in my head that sounds suspiciously like me again saying "Now would be a good time to have an uncontrollable giggle fit!"
So, now, I'm hearing TWO of my own voices... one telling me that I'm blowing it and the other one telling me how hilarious this whole situation I find myself in really is! That's on top of listening to myself speak as though I'm one of the observers in the audience!
It's all very nerve wracking really...................
How bout you?

yeah you have to learn not to think so much and focus on what you are saying
I am pretty good at public speaking and don't mind it - took quite a bit of practise though
alternatively just flash them your jubblies and that should make people just as embarrassed as you are.... :P

At first I start out all shakey and nervous and quiet, then I realize that no one really cares how bad I mess up so then I get more comfortable and continue throughout the speech like it's no big deal. BUT BUT BUT, I can totally relate about the whole giggle fit thing. I do that too. Especially when I'm nervous in other situations as well. Like being alone with my boyfriend.... I just start randomly laughing, and he gets all confused. It's quite funny, actually. He understands tho, and it's all good. I'm sorry about your voices tho!!! I have those when I'm NOT speaking and having a nervous conversation with someone. So I have the same thing you have, but in conversations. Not speeches.

Well I'm an Actor so yeah. Although i can't give a speach in front of a crowd. For instance this year i ran for Our schools student body president, i had to give a speach in front of the whole school (half at a time) and I got so nervous i couldn't even finish a whole paragraph. I was talking like "and so i did (blah blah blah) and thats y u should vote for me" and Just walked of stage as fast as i could

I think it's cute when I can tell people are nervous in front of a class. It makes me wanna go up there and give them a hug. lol. I'm actually more nervous when I'm surrounded by people. But up on stage or in front of a class, I'm fine. The only thing I really can't do is read from a piece of paper. If I don't have it memorized without the paper, I get stage-fright.

don't remind me lol last time I made a speech in front of the class my legs shook so much I couldn't stand properly and I knew I was as red as a beetroot and I heard one person laugh and it just went from bad to worse. I think many people have a fear of public speaking though.

I'm never really nervous, as long as I know what I'm going to say and I know they will laugh at something funny I say (on purpose) I always do well on those assignments, but every time I go up, my knees start shaking, even though I always tell myself its only in cartoons. Then the class laughs at one of my jokes and I go on, but my knees never stop shaking! no one ever notices though, they say they are to focused cause in 'charismatic'. then I shove them for complimenting me.

Dry mouth, shortness of breath, extremely nervous- yep! But I have learned to force myself to do it anyway. Short talks or a reading and now the fear is not so intense. But not something I will ever jump up and say pick me, pick me!

I like it, I'm a communications major in school and I have to do that in class often. It helped me get over being shy.
