VETERANS day is to celebrate VETERANS (no really?) that survived any war and are now off duty.
memorial day is to remember those that died in a war serving our country. a little different.

November 11, observed in the United States in honor of veterans of the armed services and in commemoration of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. In 1954 it was renamed from Armistice Day and given the added significance of honoring veterans.

Actually Veteran's Day is intended to recognize those who have fought in any of America's wars. It is usually celebrated as a day to recognize any veteran, whether they fought in a war or not, which is more appropriate, in my opinion, because they also served their country.

It means exactly what one thinks it means.

It is supposed to be a day to celebrate those who risked their live to serve their country in a time of war, and to remember those who died in the effort.
