I wouldn't like being a lawyer because I don't want to become a greedy snob.I also think it would be boring protecting so n' so in court. I'd rather be a senator instead.

no you don't have to be a lawyer but for most politicians it helps. it saves them on legal bills when they represent themselves in criminal court.

There are no legal recquirements for a president to have any former experience when the campaign. People usually wouldn't vote for you if you didn't have experience but ther is no law saying you can't run for President without being a lawyer or senator. In the Constitution, Article II; section1 it outlines the recquirements to be a US president "No person except a natural born citizen of the United states, at the time of the adoption of this constitution, shall be eligible to the office of president; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States"
So recap:
-you have to have been born a u.s. citizen.
-you have to be 35 yrs old.
-you have to have been a resident in the u.s. for 14 yrs.
but no where in the constitution does it say you have to be a lawyer or senator. But if you want to run it would be best to have some experience or the only supporters you'll have is your family. but there are other options besides lawyer and senator:
-representative
-governer
-judge
-et cetera

You'd ought to have read the Constitution to be a Senator, President and it's supposed to be required to be a lawyer (though I don't think they do all the time.)
Had you already done so you'd know the requirements to be President (as well as Senator).

I'd prefer a person that ran a successful business, was a veteran and a person that was a Governor of a state that made improvements in balancing an out of control budget. An as an add on somebody that at some time during their life had to take a real difficult stand on a moral issue when it was at the time real unpopular so we could really know something about their character.
Lawyer or not would not matter.

No you don't have to be a lawyer, neither W. Bush or Ronald Reagan were ever lawyers. I kind of resent your comment about lawyers being greedy snobs. I work with about 54 attorneys and while a few of them are snobs a majority of them are generous, caring and giving individuals.
PS You have to be BORN in the USA not just a legal resident.

It certainly would help to be a lawyer, because folk are always trying to challenge the policies of a politician and the president. Otherwise, the president must be at least 35 years of age and be a citizen of the United States. So far, an immigrant can't become president of the United States. The law would have to be changed to have that particular situation occur.

It's not a requirement for any elected office to be an attorney, with the exception of offices such as State Attorney General, District Attorney, and other such elected offices.

No you do not have to be a lawyer. The requirements are laced in the CONSTITUTION.

No, I think the only requirement is to be over a certain age and to be a legal resident.
