I was actually waved back "onto" the highway once in Virginia by a cop at the head of a funeral procession. That really ticked me off.

I know it is the law, or at least it was, in North Carolina.

Some people aren't getting it. I was ticked because the cop wanted to keep me from stopping.

it isnt the law here but i do it anyway out of respect. when my friend passed away we had a line about 2 miles long and this guy was mowing his lawn and he turned off his mower and took his hat off and put it over his heart until we all passed that was such an awsome thing for him to do everyone was talking about it so i went to his house a few days later to thank him and to tell him how much it meant to her family and friends that he did that. i know you didnt ask for a story but oh well it fit...

Yes, in the state of Virginia it is a State law that you must stop until a funeral procession goes passed. Also I think it is respectful that people that are NOT in the funeral procession don't get in the line whatever state you live in.

You might have pulled over at a bad place like too close to the on or off ramp they would use, if a cop waves you on, think of it as a good thing. but to answer your question: In Texas drivers are to pull to the right and allow the emergency vehicles pass there for a motorcycle cop in front of and behind the procession will expect this. It would be great if everyone did this and long before they were right behind them. Far too many idiots out there driving without training, I mean do you remember everything you learned at 16?

No. This is a typical source of confusion, as the law states that drivers are to yield the right of way to vehicles in a funeral procession. Of course, yield does not mean pull over and stop (especially if you're going in the opposite direction), it means to just make sure you don't get in their way.

I've lived in several states and visited all of them---it is common...if it is a long procession, that means that a person had many meaningful relationships, and I understand ya getting a bit impatient, but it won't kill you. Couldn't have cost you more than a couple of minutes.

I live in Kansas and I'm pretty sure it's law here. Maybe the cop waived you ahead because it was a long procession and he/she was just being curtious.
