You will be on some very good roads. There are several ways to go so I'll sort of map out the way I sent ny neice from Birmingham to Tallahassee(in reverse)
Take I-10 west from Tallahassee to US highway 231 North.Take 231 North to Dothan, take a rest stop if you want to.Continue on 231 through Dothan(will also be called Ross Clark Circle).Stay on 231 north as you go through the towns of Ozark and Troy until you reach Montgomery(just outside of the city limits). You will turn right on Highway 271 or Taylor Road to I-85.You will take I-85 to I-65 (sould be exit 1)
Take I-65 north to Birmingham.
This is the reverse way I told my neice and she had no problems.Plenty of towns and rest areas and is well patrolled by State and local authorities.Have a good trip.

I think you can do it and think you should,it is a Great experience! Please remember these things as you travel.Make sure you get direction from like triple aa or off the computer and take a map with you.

Phone and charger
Battery cables
jack and extra tire
flash light
always be safe,If you would get a flat tire I would suggest that you call a wrecker or 911,there are many weirdos out there so wait in your car till someone comes and help you,Keep the doors locked and the windows rolled up.Make sure you car is filled up with gas before you leave and if you need to get gas at night go to a very lighted place and have your cell phone close.Make sure you check your tires and your oil before you leave.Have fun and be safe.

Go for it it is really not that hard, I have to drive about that much when I go to college, which is in Birmingham, to home and back. It's really not that bad until you get into Birmingham, but that's no worse than any other city.

Of course you can do it. Be sure to have a good map with the route well-marked. Be wise, be careful, take a cell pphone, and enjoy your drive.
