Anyone who actually needs the help that welfare provides.

And only after they have a drug test. And I mean a drug test before they get every check. the recipient and everyone in their household.

And then lets place a time limit on this help. Get those professional welfare people off the rolls and into jobs.

Now if they cannot work, that's a whole different story, there should be some other program to move them into.

But i know a man who is 30 years old and cannot read, he has collected welfare since he was born.

Teach this man to read and send him out to get a job.

But then again why bother? the state has nothing better to do with its money.

Welfare reduces the insentive to work, for thousands of people the insentive is zero. Progressive income taxes to support welfare programs also on the margin reduce the insentive of the employed to work. business taxes to support welfare directly reduces the present and future ability to provide well paying jobs. With less work being done and less investment, we are all poorer. Government welfare breads dependance and an unthankful, militant, self-rightious, sense of entitlement or right against society. It was better before the "Great Programs" of the 30's were people first took resposposability for themselves and thier families. the safety-net was the family then the church or community in volutary charity - not property confiscation. NO PERSON SHOULD RECIEVE GOVERNMENT WELFARE, but many should recieve charity and many should take care of themselves to the greatest extent posible.

I think Welfare should go back to what it was originally meant for, a supplement. So the only way to get Welfare is if you have a job that just can't pay enough, or recently out of a job. This living off of Welfare for an extended period of time is what irks me.

Welfare is based on "need" and made available to "prop" up those who are without funds to live a daily life. It provides monies for food, clothing and medical care. Welfare has programs that provide job training and "jobs" for those having difficulty in locating them. On many occasions, it will provide immediate "hiring" for those who would otherwise not have employment. Basically, it is a very fine concept. It has been "fine-tuned" in the past few years. It is a very valuable addition as an "aid to the people" in terms of immediate help to the "poor." I wish that all of God's people wouldn't have to suffer this fate. If they do, I hope that those people who dispense welfare, understand how to be caring and just how "serious" this social program is.
