I did. I hung out with my Grandfather, a great man, who fought in the South Pacific during WWII for the United States. I am today because of what he has taught me. I hope you Americans are truly aware of and appreciative of what his generation has done for us.

I haven't been out today. But I did send a forward to a fellow vet to show her, she and her husband had not been forgotten. This is a day, when many vets go to their local VA hospitals and congregate in lobbies and meet other vets and talk about their more amusing military experiences. You never hear them discuss the times of serious conflict or the loss of friends they served with. They choose to forget the horrors of war, or their unwelcomed returns home. They want to remember the few good times, where life was more kind and not oppressing. And it's a time for them to silently thank that buddy who may have put his life in front of theirs to make the ultimate sacrifice. It's a day of remem- bering comradeships and names and faces, of an earlier time in their lives. A time of life, when they find they have fewer remeniscings, of happy faces and engaging smiles. Of a short lived romance, in a far away land. Of a loved one, waiting at home. Or sending a 'dear John' letter. It's a time when little things come back to mind, once forgotten. And it's a bigger moment, when their thoughts turn to the reasons they were where they were. And they can take pride in those reasons. And know they made a difference, just by being where they were needed to be, even if they considered it to be a small contribution. They saw, they remember, and they will never forget, what it was to be a military member of our armed forces.

Yes, I did. This morning I thanked my father who fought in Europe during World War II. He is 81 and enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the age of 17.

Yes I did thank many last Sunday at our Rememberance Day Service. I`m from the UK and would like to say thank you to all the Americans who fought for our freedom as well as your own. The statement I have pasted below I send every year around my friends. It works whether you are British or American.

Lest We Forget.

It is the Soldier, not the minister

Who has given us freedom of religion

It is the Soldier, not the reporter

Who has given us freedom of the press

It is the Soldier, not the poet

Who has given us the freedom of speech

It is the Soldier, not the campus organiser

Who has given us freedom to protest

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer

Who has given us the right to a fair trial

It is the Soldier, not the politician

Who has given us the right to vote

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,

Who serves
beneath the flag,

And whose coffin is draped by the flag

Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Anon.

Let us all remember who we owe our freedom to.

Ray.

Unfortunately the only vet I know, my grandfather, passed away in 2003. He fought in WWII and he was only 17 when he enlisted. I wish I could have thanked him today.

I have not thanked a vet recently because the only vet that I know is my grandpa and he divorced my grandma a few years back. I haven't seen/heard from him in a while. i did thank him when I saw him earlier though. God bless all of the people who lost their lives in the wars. I pray that we don't have to suffer from any more wars

Yes! I thanked my father-in-law - well, last evening, actually. He served in the U.S. Navy and fought in the Pacific.

As I get older, I do appreciate more and more what earlier generations have done for us.

Yes. My dad denied being a hero and said that the real heroes that he knew were the guys he served with who gave their lives flying their missions

Good for you. I am married to a 32 year Army veteran (he is still active duty, by the way) so I feel as strongly as you do.

He keeps a line on his email signature block which I love. It goes: "If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read it in English, thank a veteran."

YES, I HAVE THANKED A VET TODAY!

Veterans Day 2007: A Personal Thank You To This Veteran
November 11, 2007

Please Share This Article: The email below that was received moments ago is copy/pasted in its entirety, since last names are not used. Marcia (the author) is someone that I have known for years, but never met. We arranged to meet several years ago on the phone with members of her family present as I detailed how her older brother, who was with me at the time and a friend, was killed in action on 8 may 1968 while fighting North Vietnamese Regulars, south of Saigon during one of the many battles related to the Tet Offensive of 1968.

As you read this email I think you’ll realize that Marcia and her family are like most families in our great country - salt of the earth, filled with a goodness that is real and unpretentious, kind and loving of her family, her country and her God.

This Veteran is proud and humbled to know such fine Americans.

This letter is for all Veterans.

Hi Mike,

Today is the day we get to thank all of the brave men and women who put their lives on the line for the freedoms we all hold dear. We are able to worship our God. We are able to own and read the Bible. We are able to own our own land. We are able to marry whom we choose.

We are able to have our own business and keep most of what we earn. God has truly blessed America, for His purpose. And these are just a few of our freedoms, we are truly blessed.

And were it not for those of you who do the fighting for us all, where would we be.

Thank you Mike, for honoring your God, your country your family, and your friends. Thanks for your caring heart of your fellow man.

With much gratitude,

Marcia and family
