Your "purpose" can change day by day, but it must be based on new knowledge, new skills, new goals. Only you can determine your goals, which are the very essence of your "real purpose." You are not the puppet of a mysterious Greek god, nor the servant of a Christian god who gave you free will. Serve god if that is the goal you choose, but do not be decieved by people who say your purpose is in his creation of you. If you do that, you deny your free will, thus denying the gift he gave you.
Your first purpose is to find a purpose. After that, it is to fulfill it--for your own satisfaction.

Living a fulfilled life isn't something that can easily be defined in tangible terms.

There's a whole series of things an individual must do to feel pleased with themselves. There's a lot of research that's been done into the psychological stages of life.

It seems that as people age, having accomplished certain things doesn't necessarily make them feel good, but it prevents a breakdown. I would research psychological phases of life and see a basic formula of how people travel through the years. This may be a good starting point for you.

Your question begs for God. In fact, real purpose in life is a meaningless unless you assume that God exists.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (noted 20th century mathematician, philosopher and Nobel Laureate)

Purpose is like having a military mission. You have to know the mission before you can fulfill it. If we believe God doesn't exist, there is no mission, no purpose and no meaning. It's all an illusion. Go on a drinking binge or do something to forget about purpose.

If we admit God might exist, doesn't it make sense to seek God? If we were on the battlefield and didn't know what we were supposed to do, wouldn't we seek the commanding officer? Seeking God is the mission/purpose of our life or there is none at all.

You probably wouldn't be able to understand what your purpose is and what it's result is. If you do have a purpose in life than the most minor task you perform could be that purpose. That would be it, your purpose in life could already be over.

Deal with it the best you can at the moment. It just seems to all happen. Like JLennon said, life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans. Show people you are the best you can be and be the best for yourself. The real purpose comes later.

You might do best by not worrying about stuff like that and just try to do the right thing on a day-to-day basis. Maybe if you do that, your "real purpose" will work itself out.

Keep trying things. There are also aptitude tests that may help and books like 'What Color is My Parachute'. It can be difficult, but keep searching.

Your career is your central purpose, but you can have other things that also give you purpose..especially raising a child if you do it right.

You have free will, and that means that your life's purpose is yours to define or create. If you have life goals and are striving to reach them (regardless of whether you actually do), then you have found your purpose.
