Dumb Law or NOt?

Question

In Alaska, while it is legal to shoot bears, waking a sleeping bear for the purpose of taking a photograph is prohibited. Do you think this is a dumb law? or why would they make this law in the first place?

The law may be erroneous but it is the law, we have to follow the law. The remedy is to petition the Congress to amend the law and pass a new correct version.

possibly because waking a sleeping bear to take pictures is inherently a bad Idea that can only result in a person being mauled half to death if not worse.

The law exists because some people need to be protected from their own stupidity.

I used to live out in Alberta where wild animals along the road were abundant. There was no shortage of tourists getting out of their cars and trying to approach an animal for a pictures. This eventually became prohibited because of the mass quantities of attacks.

I believe this is a good law. In Alaska the bears are extremely territorial. If they were to be woken up, they may be dangerous. If the law was not in place there would be many human casualties.

Well, this distrubs the wildlife for no good reason and puts the tourists at risk. Of course, if someone is willing to risk getting mauled to get a picture with a bear, I doubt a law is going to discourage them.

I don't think they would make a law if they didn't feel it was necessary...guess there was a problem with waking bears to take pictures...who knew

I am no lawyer or anything like that but Bears hibernate in the winter and if they don't that throws off their whole routine and i would imagine they could die or something.

so you dont get killed and eaten for waking a sleeping bear, bears tend to wake up in really nasty moods.
