Lots of times, they're pretty fun. Most of the people there are cool. I lost my son in a huge crowd when he was maybe 4 years old. A guy saw me looking desperate and asked what was wrong. As soon as I told him he jumped up on a stump and called the entire crowd to be quiet and listen. He said, "we lost a kid, 4 years old, blond hair, red shirt" and someone immediately yelled out "he's over here." It was pretty funny, the entire crowd enjoyed having something important to do, even if just for a second. Then it was right back to revelry...

Oh, and Nick never even knew he was lost.

Oh, then there was the time I was carrying Nick on my shoulders - there are a lot of saucy wenches at the ren faire who kept letting Nick get a look down their shirts and commenting that I should be so lucky. It was hilarious - Nick totally did not understand.

Yes! We go to an awesome one every year. I used to work there as a teenager. My children and I dress up in period costumes and we have a great time. The crafts are great and the shows are very entertaining. You don't have to dress up, but it is fun. It is a good way to let go of the everyday and share a little piece of history. Alot of people are considered weird for the dressing up part, or nerdy. Some of the coolist people I know let loose for "Ren Fest." Go and enjoy. Take some money though. Things aren't cheap and alot of the performers work for tips. Please keep that in mind a give them a little something.

Yes, and it was FREEZING. The middle of March isn't the greatest time to be outdoors in North Carolina.
But it was really fun.
