The Iron Man Cal Ripken Jr.

He was one of the most respected players that many current players looked up to.

Seriously? Pretty much any olde-tymer not named Ruth. Baseball wasn't a 24/7/365 occupation back then, and even the better players had to ply some trade to tide them through the winters. They invariably led more diverse lives.

Oh, I'd also rule out Joe Jackson, simply because his story is too prone to misinterpretation, and there's been more than enough of that. But that still leaves many other players.

Franchise? The 1899 Cleveland Spiders. Worst team ever.

Ted Williams of the Red Sox, Jerry Coleman of the Yankees or Bob Feller of the Indians because they were both baseball stars and war heroes. Their life stories have more than just baseball. In Feller's case, the Navy offered him the opportunity to pitch for a Navy all star team and tour bases, but he insisted in serving in combat. He was on a gun crew of a battleship in the Pacific. Ted Williams hit .406 (the last .400 hitter in baseball) in 1941, but enlisted in the Marines in 1942. He served as a pilot in World War II, stayed in the reserves, and flew in the Marines in Korea. Jerry Coleman was on the 1949 champion Yankees, went to Korea, and is now the broadcaster for the Padres, so he has had 3 different careers. Feller and Williams are members of the baseball hall of fame. There is ample literature on both Williams and Feller but Coleman is an ex-Yankee. You might even be able to interview him by email through the Padres or through their radio station XPRS, http://www.mighty1090.com

I did one on Nolan Ryan in 8th grade. It was great. He played for Texas so that really got me interested and my dad told me how great he was. So I deffy learned a lot. I would do one on Ty Cobb probably. I'm so interested in the old baseball days and I think he'd be a great person to learn about.

Well before in high school I had to do an essay about a scandal or controversy and I picked the Black Sox scandal. But if I had to pick a franchise then I would pick the Cubs because of their curse.

I would choose Ken Griffey Jr. from the present day Reds. There were a lot of things that happened in his life and his family has a great history. His dad also played in the majors and they played together. There is a lot of info about his injuries, his records, his life, and his present day stats.
