I watched his interview on Wind Tunnel a couple of months ago, and this guy likes Indy. Does anyone think that with his fifth place finish at Indy this year (with a Penske lease car), that he might be the man to beat next year ? Or will he falter like he did at Ganassi ? Also, please post any current news in open wheel (Champ Car or IRL).

He's going to be fine in the IRL. He proved himself again in the '07 Indy 500. He had that Luzco-Dragon (re: Penske) car on rails. If the race goes the full 200 laps, he was positioned very well for winning. By the way - the car he had at Indy - wasn't it great to see the famous Penske yellow/black/red color combination back, like the days of Mears' Pennzoil cars? And Norton AntiVirus was a great sponsor for them.

After his horrific (sorry - no other adjectives come to mind) accident at Chicagoland a few years ago, I thought he'd be out of open-wheel cars. Really happy to see him back in the IRL. Penske knows talent - let's admit that. He's going to put Ryan in a solid car, and let him be aggressive enough to get to the front. I think both Helio and Ryan will communicate well as teammates. Ryan is still learning ovals, but he's aggressively smooth on the road courses. Don't be surprised if he wins a road course this year - I'll go out on a limb and say he finishes top-3 in St. Pete and Mid-Ohio, and wins in Detroit this year.

Solid pickup for Penske.

He ran well at the 500 last year, and Penske is high on him. He has a good ride. So, I would expect him to perform well. It will be nice to see he and Helio together. You mentioned current news on open wheel. I don't track CCWS, but I have a few that I turn to for IRL. Here are a few good sources:

Ryans a good race car driver. He'll fit in perfectly with that car/team. Penske wants blood from Andretti. Briscoe, TK and Danny Wheldon will be tearing it up next season.

I think that he is going to do well with Penske. I think that his Helio can teach him a lot as well as Roger Penske. Hopefully he will win a few races to bring Penske up. (I like Andretti-Green more, but I still want Penske to do well this season.)

Ryan is an awesome pilot, and quite capable of standing the crowd up on its feet. He'll do well in IRL/ICS, I'm sure.

After that catastrophic accident a few years ago, he deserves a chance at a full-time ride in "OUR" series!

He is a good driver but I don't think he is a Penske type driver. Than again Roger did a good job with Helo and gil
