Yes, but only if it is done in the right way. And it's not often done the right way.
Usually capital punishment is cruel and unusual in the United States. There is no way to tell if the defendant is suffering when he or she is put to death.
There are a disproportionate number of poor and/or minorities who get capital punishment.
There are no millionaires on death row.
On the other hand, there are people like Saddam Hussein, who were dangerous and needed to be killed because he had many followers who would caused much suffering.
My 2 bits.

You don't have to condone brutal crimes or want the criminals who commit them to avoid a harsh punishment to ask whether the death penalty prevents or even reduces crime and whether it risks killing innocent people.
124 people on death rows have been released with proof that they were wrongfully convicted. DNA is available in less than 10% of all homicides and isn’t a guarantee we won’t execute innocent people.
The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reputable study shows the death penalty to be a deterrent. To be a deterrent a punishment must be sure and swift. The death penalty is neither. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in states that don’t.
We have a good alternative. Life without parole is now on the books in 48 states. It means what it says. It is sure and swift and rarely appealed. Life without parole is less expensive than the death penalty.
The death penalty costs much more than life in prison, mostly because of the legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people.
The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?
The death penalty doesn't necessarily help families of murder victims. Murder victim family members across the country argue that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.
Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. If the process is speeded up we are sure to execute an innocent person.

No i don't. For several reasons:
1 - What if they are later found innocent, someone else confesses, they were framed or they were innocent. It is easy enough for the government to release a prisoner if this happens but you can't bring someone back from the dead, and if you could, you would be very rich man.
2 - If the crime they committed was gruesome enough to warrant the death penalty, they should be locked up in dungeon-like conditions and only be given stale bread and water for the rest of their life. This would be more of a punishment than a fast painless death.
3 - If a suicide bomber or suicide gunman planning a massacre is caught before he could commit his crime, what's the point in killing him? He is just going to get what he wants.
I feel as though I should point out that I am not an extreme leftest.

Yes, without a doubt. Murders, Rapists, child molesters ect....... should go away, why keep them around? It only cost us more in taxes when we have to build more prisons and pay for thier continued scum bag ways! A 9mm is cheap, easy and quick!

haha i can't beleive someone quoted the bible, kinda skipped the commandments there buddy. NO i don't believe in it because you can't solve a murder by making another murderer. An eye for an eye makes a stockpile of eyes. You can fight fire with fire but how do you fight murder with murder and still be riteous?
