Then the next day all of a sudden it starts working and blowing out hot air. When it goes on for only five minutes it blows out cold air and shuts off and then we freeze the temp even dropped as low as 58. I even reset the thermostat and bought a new one and that was not it either.Please help me I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money calling a tech if it something so simple to fix.

So, I have to respond to the person who told you to call your service provider. Yes, the gas company will look at it for free and if it is something simple they might be able to make it work. But they have to protect themselves and so they are very conservative - if they can't fix it (quite likely) and they think there is any danger, they'll disconnect it and cap the pipe.

As it stands you probably want to call a professional as this isn't something to learn about by trial and error... So, getting the gas company out just assures that you'll be calling the professional sooner and while he's repairing your furnace he can reconnect it.

I guess the first place I'd inquire would be the service provider. They may tell you they have no obligation, if in fact it isn't their equipment, but certainly could offer valid suggestions...Not that you won't get any here, but they do provide the fuel, to allow you heat.
