It has been a long-standing tradition for the President of the United States to honor our Veterans by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers on Veteran's day. This President, George W. Bush, who has sent thousands of brave young Americans to their deaths (or horrendous disability) in a war of his own chosing, could not be bothered to honor them this year because he wanted to be in his home state of Texas instead. Just like he did during the Viet Nam war, come to think of it.

How dare he disrespect our courageous troops and our honored veterans by purposely choosing to do what he wanted, to be where he wanted, rather than pay his respects in this time-honored tradition?

As a veteran, I find this to be shameful behavior, not befitting the office of Commander in Chief. I also find it dispicable that just a few days ago he used disabled veterans for a photo-op, playing video games with them just long enough to get his picture taken.

Are you as disgusted as I am?

I am ashamed to have either Bush or Cheney (both cowards and draft dodgers) to appear at those ceremonies at all.

1983 Deputy Secretary of protection W. Paul Thayer laid a wreath at Arlington Cemetery for the duration of the Memorial Day ceremony in decision to Ronald Reagan. 1992 vice chairman Dan Quayle laid a wreath Memorial Day in decision to George H.W. Bush

Actually what you say is not true. Historically the President would NOT be at Arlington on Veterans Day, but would send a high ranking official like the VP or the defense secretary. Bill Clinton changed that and came to every Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington. President Bush has presided at most of these in his terms, but in recent years has given the task to others, sometimes. He was in Texas, and honored veterans at a ceremony at a VFW post, I believe. It shouldn't matter exactly where he goes, and to let everyone in the world know exactly where the President will be on a given day is not a good idea anyway.

It's more of an honor to lay the wreath, he's not as deserving to hold that task. I'd say it worked out for everyone in the end anyway.

He was in Texas at a gathering honoring vets and lost soldiers from Texas that day. I initially wondered the same thing so looked it up.

I actually think that if President Bush were put on a psychiatrist's couch, the diagnosis would come back that he's a sociopath. Seriously.

What do you mean?

This president has to sent a standard for the next President. (in vacation time)

It would take away important time he could be spending in Crawford.

No I'm relieved - I think having a chickenhawk lay a wreath dishonors real soldiers everywhere.

He's a true Republican. He was home guarding his family from Iraqis that the U.S. military hasn't yet killed.

...I think there are a few left.
