Banks and other companies use the reverse side of a check to print terms of cashing. Is this legal and if so, can I do the same thing? If not, why can those other entities do it?

Sending a check to the company assumes that one has a current business relationship with that company and that company already knows your address, phone number and other information.

Use a money order for additional privacy and be aware that people have your information and it's up to how much they wish to obey the law when dealing with your privacy.

You can write zipity-do-da on the check, but that will not stop a shaddy company from using your info. But does that really happen? Most companies I pay with a check already have my personal info.
One thing I do is get checks printed with only my name printed on it, no address, no phone, etc.
You can pay someone and they won't have any additional info.

The reverse side of the check is for endorsements and bank routing and clearing information.

You may put whatever you want on the "Memo" line on the front. However anything you put there is NOT legally binding on anyone.
