for every gallon you have you can have an inch of fish so to speak. if you add real plants, they will add oxygen, so you can have more. the pet store should be able to tell you how big certain fish will get. For Swordtails, any freshwater community fish will work, they will be fine with semi-aggressives too. We have a beta in with ours, and they do fine. Also the little west african frogs are cool, and they dont use up any oxygen. We also have a very cool bright orange snail, which is surprisingly quite entertaining. The snail will also not use any oxygen.
I know everyone thinks that Beta's will fight with other fish.....but after having many in with other fish I am here to tell you this is WRONG. Just make sure the Beta is the "prettiest" thats all he/she cares about ! Oh, and I know everyone is saying that swordtails grow 3-5 inches......but ours have not.....so i dont know where that comes from...

pavelkam's answer is a glaring example of why you should not automatically believe the advice of a Top Contributor!
NEVER use the 1 inch of fish per gallon of water rule. This rule is ridiculous! Would you keep a 10 inch goldfish in a 10 gallon tank that is 10" long? Of course not!! Anyone that tells you that you can have an inch of fish per gallon of water is completely inexperienced. NEVER use this rule.... EVER.
You could add another 1 or two swordtails, but that's it. Your fish will grow to be about 4 inches long. If you want other tropicals, you should really get a larger tank. With a 20 gallon you could add other fish safely.

ok wow that changed into lots to absorb a million.) Khuli loaches and cory cat, convinced 4 is the minimum for colleges for those adult adult males. also i recognize Khuli's are not that uncommon as petco has them and once petco has them they are not fee. 2.) in case you receives 3 guppies get all adult males till you want children, in case you want children then do a million male 2 lady. 3.) The black neons will be tremendous or the cardinals yet both will be pushing it somewhat on stocking basically because they favor to be in communities of 6 minimum. 4.) Ph and driftwood, no theory how low it drops it yet no longer that low. I absolutely have had a chunk in my goldfish tank for extra or less a month and have not considered an important change. notwithstanding the severe Ph shouldn't impact the fish that a lot. 5.) Pleco, the purely form which will be at liberty in a 30 gallon is a bristle nostril as each and each and every of the others will outgrow the tank.

how big are the fish in there now? if more then 3-4 inches long, thats enough for a ten gallon tank. you dont want to over populate the tank or your fish will not do very good. if they are small fish 1-2 inch, then you can put maybe 3 more , but make sure the new fish will be alright in the tank with the swordtails. like no fighting. if they start to fight you have to seperate them. check with your local pet store and find out what type of fish does well with the swordtails. good luck!!

Are you planning to upgrade to a larger tank in the near future? Swords grow to be 3-4 inches and you already have three of them in a 10 gallon tank.
Unless you intend to upgrade and move everyone into a larger tank, I wouldn't add much else with them unless the new additions don't exceed 1-2 inches in size.
* * * Someone earlier suggested iridescent sharks. I DO NOT advise you to add one of these to your tank. They grow to between 2 and 3 FEET!
