Plants and other autotrophs use photosynthesis to make their own food which can be used for energy and for building materials.

Animals and other consumers benefit from photosynthesis by eating autotrophs or something that ate autotrophs, thus getting food for energy and for building materials.

Both producers and consumers use the oxygen produced from photosynthesis in the process of aerobic respiration to change the energy in food molecules into a form that is ready for cells to use.
