My primary doc gave me a lecture today
about why it is so important to have an annual pap and mamogram.

I get the mammograms, it's the internal exams which I dread.

A few years ago I had an overwhelming infection and was in the hospital. This really old gynechologist said to me "God, you are so damned fat, I can't even feel your ovaries". That was it. I was humiliated.
I have gone three times since then and told the doc. "I truly hate being here, and let's get this done as quickly as possible." I explained to him what had happened and he was understanding. Ok, this doc has retired and I have to start all over again.

My appointment is in two weeks and I am already worrying about it. Should I explain to this new doc. the previous experience that I had has made be phobic going to a gynechologist?

Tried female doc once---that was just creepy.

Any suggestions? I have medication that I take only for severe anxiety, should I take that prior to going?

I'm not REALLY fat, I weigh 130lbs. It's just that all my weight is in my lower ab.

I would shop around until I found someone that I felt comfortable with. There are good gynos out there that make it their business to put you at ease. Don't let some pompus jerk put your life at risk by intimidating, or embarassing you into not going to the doctor. Get some recommendations from your girlfriends about their gynos. I also hate going but my doctor will nag me into it so I just let her do it.

i would definately keep looking for a doctor that you feel most comfortable with. my appointments are generally short and not an issue. they really don't bother me in the slightest. but it might be because the first time I went was in college at the student health center when I was 18. so they are used to dealing with kids away from home for the first time.

just keep looking. and if it helps, yes, take your anti anxiety medicine if it makes your more at peace. they are important appointments to go to every year.
