Eggs and sperms are gametes. They are haploid. Haploid means that they have half the regular number of chromosomes. This works really well because an egg and a sperm join together to begin a new organism which will then have the entire diploid number of chromosomes.
A white blood cell is a regular body cell. A white blood cell is diploid. It has the whole amount of chromosomes for the species -- which is two of every kind. All the cells in a person are diploid except for the gametes.

RE:
How many chromosomes are in a sperm cell? in an egg cell? in a white blood cell?
And why?? Does it have anything to do with haploids/diploids?

In humans, you would find 23 chromosomes in a sperm cell; 23 chromosomes in an egg cell; and 46 chromosomes in a white blood cell. All human body cells contain 46 chromosomes (two sets of 23 chromosomes). Only the gametes (i.e., the sperm & eggs) contain 23 chromosomes (one set of 23 chromosomes) because two gametes combine to form a new person with 46 chromosomes in his body cells. Body cells grow and reproduce by the process of mitosis. For each human body cell (with 46 chromosomes) that undergoes mitosis, two identical human body cells (with 46 chromosomes) are produced. Gametes (i.e., sperm & eggs) are produced by meiosis. For example, in the testes of a man, for each body cell (with 46 chromosomes) that enters meiosis, four sperm (with 23 chromosomes) are produced. (Meiosis is a two part process, that’s why four gametes are produced, not just two).

sperm cell and egg cell - 23 white blood cell (and every other human cell) - 46 (23 pairs) The reason for this is sperm and egg cell only contain half of the genetic information of the individual (so when united they form the 23 pairs a normal individual has)

I think its
23 for sperm, 23 for egg, 46 for white blood cell
sperm and egg combine to create a normal 46 cell zygote
white blood cell is a normal cell and has to have 46
