Angel is correct. With a 5 qty package of hot dogs and and 8 qty package of rolls, you must buy 8 hotdog packages and 5 roll packages to fill the appropriate amount of rolls with hotdogs. The number 40 is the lowest multiple to satisfy the equation.
To andyg77,
It is good that you noticed the change from 6 to 5 hotdogs. They messed up earlier with 6, thinking 6 roll packages would be required for 8 hotdog packages, hence 48 total. However, 24 is also a common multiple of 6 and 8. People were only buying 3 roll packages and 4 hotdog packages to equal out the distribution.
That is why the change from 6 to 5 hotdogs per package, to correct the original miscalculation and to create a higher lowest common multiple.

It's an insidious plot, perpetrated on the public by hot dog, and hot dog roll producers in an attempt to increase sales and undermine the strangle hood of the hamburger industry.

Simple..to start a never-ending chain of buying more hot dog rolls to compensate..uh-oh..now you have too many rolls..better buy more dogs..
It is kind of like the the eternal "Lather.Rinse.Repeat" that you find on shampoo bottles..

I think it's getting worse, 5 dogs - 8 rolls currently.
Didn't it used to be 6-8?

I'm still trying to discover the answer to something that perplexed Kelso on That 70s Show - How do hot dogs survive in the wild without eyes?

It's a huge conspiracy set up by the federal goverment to keep the economy afloat to make us purchase 2 packages of rolls or dogs to compensate for the difference, once again trying to keep the money out of our pockets. lol.

It's true. It's a conspiracy to keep you coming back when you run out of the short package. And, the other conspiracy is to sell bulk type containers to make you think it's more for your money and quite often if you do the math you'll find out it's more pricey.

hmmmm... I believe it at its root an issue of scarcity the Chinese food Industry uses dogs...hotly cooked at a higher rate at the back before the output manufacturers can get them into those little plastic packages.
