If your PC has a x16 PCIe slot, Geforce 8800GT is currently best bang for your buck. The card draws 110 watts. You may have to upgrade to a power supply with 26 amps or more on the +12V rail.

Just in case your PC still has the AGP slot, get the Geforce 7950GT AGP. But X1950XT AGP is best.

You might want to wait awhile. There are rumours circulating that the GeForce 9 series is about to come out. The 8800GT actually uses a GeForce 9 core, 92 I think. Have some patience!

Geforce is very good. The card you choose depends on how you want to use it. Look at the specs and get as much on-board video RAM as you can afford. The onboard RAM takes work off the pc's RAM, and speeds things up.

I have had good luck with both Nvidia and ATI Radeon. A good midrange ATI would be the x1600's at around 70-100$.

two 8800 ultras in sli. about $1200.
However, it probably won't fit in your computer, and you need a powerful power supply, plus a sli motherboard.

A more reasonable solution would be a 8800 GT, about $250. It requires one PCI-E slot, and a 450+ watt PSU is recommended.
